FINALISTS in the Sussex Food & Drink Awards - BEST EATING EXPERIENCE 2009/10

Welcome to a new decade...

We have returned from a well earned sunny island holiday where we had a the key elements for a perfect holiday, sand, sun, sea, siestas and even the odd sangria.....  not to forget th two of us, relaxing together as we do every January.

We are bursting with plans and new ideas which you will see us implement throughout 2010.  We will be holding our supper club every month as it is such a fantastic success and many of you have not yet been able to make a reservation, despite us now holding the dinner on two consecutive evenings.

What a difference another year makes!!!

We have been open a year.  It is impossible to explain how the time has flown and what a great time we are having.  We have meet the most wonderful loyal customers, great suppliers and have enjoyed every moment of working together.

Sussex Life is even better than we knew it would be and we agree that opening Simply Delicious is the best decicion we have made in twenty years!  Opening in a recession may not have been everyones idea of a smart move but our expertise in delivering quality food at a fair price has ensured that we have survived and grown week after week.  In fact we are proud to announce that we have achieved every target we set ourselves.  Never planning to be millionaires but our passion and love of food is what we and Simply Delicious are all about.

LIFE IS NOT ALL HARD WORK AND NO PLAY

We have always worked hard and played harder and this year is no exception except that we have not jetted off for our usual holidays, we have made the most of some lovely overnight breaks in Sussex hotels.

We have just arrived back from a late summer break in the Cotswolds where we made time to visit lots of other Delis, source a fantastic new cheese from a small organic dairy in the beautiful award winning village of Minchampton - come and try a taster before it all goes and trust us it will!

On our retun to Sussex via Bath we visited a great new cheese distributor who we hope to work with in the future so that we can stock a wider range of artisan cheeses for your enjoyment, some really interesting cheese that you will never see in any supermarket.

We will be introducing a range of new products following our holiday and after a weekend in London attending Speciality Fine Food Exhibition.  While there, we met some amazing new suppliers - watch out for our Christmas lines and new Spanish Olive Oil.  Also we will be taking orders for Christmas Hampers and Cheese Platters in November and December.

Anyway, back to our holiday, if you are interested, we stayed at some fab luxurious hotels and as usual ate in the best restaurants, with tasting menus and sommeliers choice special reserve wines!!  The last night we had a fantastic suite with amazing views in Burford and cannot wait to go back, please ask us if you would like the name of the hotel as it is an absolute gem and rates as one of the nicest we have stayed anywhere in the world and that is saying something when you think of the forty or more countries we have visited!

What a difference a year makes!!!

Setting up and starting to run our own business in 2008 has been a total delight and at times we need to pinch each other just to remind ourselves that it is real and that our food emporium does exist. It has been hard work and holidays are on the back burner for the time being as we concentrate on building up our business and expanding our customer base.  We are very happy that our vision of a modern deli in the glorious regency town of Bognor Regis has been welcomed and we are often told that it was long overdue. We are meeting lovely people who are returning on a regular basis and we feel a part of this community which is completely different from our lives in London. We have repeatedly been asked if our shop is part of a franchise which proves to us that we have created a top class environment.

Discovering what items are most popular has been interesting as they are not the ones we would have predicted.  We stock a lot of Sussex produce and those things really are the most popular as more people are supporting local businesses and are conscience of food miles.

2009 started with some time off work for good behaviour and we have returned to work with more new ideas and plans for events that will allow us to continue to expand our business.  Please check our events page which will be updated regularly for details.  This has been the most exciting project we have ever worked on and all the more fulfilling as it is entirely our own and we have done it together. As we look forward to this year it is a pleasure to get up and go to work because we love what we are doing.

Love food!
